I Hate Mold Design. Ghaa!
by The Wanderer on Dec.16, 2009, under Pro/ENGINEER

Can somebody please tell me what this means?
Split feature has failed. The volume cannot be split for either of the following reasons:
- a hole in the reference part is not closed off by parting surface, or
- the gap between the reference part and the workpiece has not been closed off by a single parting surface quilt
The hole or gap is located somewhere along the highlighted curve with highlighted endpoints. The curve starts at one side of the parting surface, goes through the hole or gap, and ends at the other side of the parting surface.
Recommended actions:
Redefine parting surface and create geometry to either close the hole or bridge the gap. In cases where multiple parting surface quilts are used to bridge the gap, these parting surfaces must be merged into one quilt.
Ack! Been tearing my hair out. Ghaa!
(Follow-Up) Importing Adobe Illustrator Files To Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0
by The Wanderer on Sep.02, 2009, under Pro/ENGINEER
Wow, this must be the quickest follow-up post I had ever done in all my time blogging about Pro/E. In my last post “Importing Adobe Illustrator Files To Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0“, I tried importing Adobe Illustrator (AI) files into Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 and ended up with a great big spoon of nothing. Geometry was corrupt (CS4, CS3, CS2, CS and v9) and in certain cases, caused Pro/E to exit (v10). So, I did what any sane CAD jockey would do in my shoes, I logged a call with PTC Technical Support.
More after the jump.
Importing Adobe Illustrator Files To Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0
by The Wanderer on Sep.02, 2009, under Pro/ENGINEER
Been asked if Pro/E WF4.0 reads in Adobe Illustrator (AI) files and if so, up to what version of AI. At this moment, the latest and greatest from Adobe is Illustrator CS4. So, I fired up Illustrator CS4 and created a simple text of “Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0″ with Helvetica LT Light, then saved it as a CS4 .AI.

The file was saved using the following settings:

Variable Section And Helical Sweep Combo In Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0
by The Wanderer on Jul.07, 2009, under Pro/ENGINEER
A friend made a unique request (to test me perhaps?). Anyway, he said he wanted a helical sweep, BUT with a variable section. Had to rack my brain trying to figure out how to get it to work. Tried the direct method a few times but came up against a brick wall. Couldn’t get the sections to vary using a helical sweep. Ultimately, I went with a combination of helical sweep to create the trajectory and then a variable section sweep to create the end geometry. Check out the video!
User-Defined Features In Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0

Check this out! Am trying out Google Docs to publish my presentations online. Gdocs even has this pretty nifty embed feature. How do you like it? (Both the embedded presentation AS WELL AS my presentation, of course)
Please direct all praises (!!) and brickbats (/duck) to the usual channels, via comments, e-mail or Twitter.
Oh yeah, if the embedded presentation is missing below, go here to view the online presentation. Thank you Google Docs!
